Rhodesia, July 1960
|
In October 1959, I got my first passport, and I first used it in December 1959 and January 1960 when I hitchhiked from Johannesburg to Mt Kilimanjaro and back. Six months later I used it again when Richard Darley and I hitchhiked from Johannesburg to and around Southern Rhodesia and through a small part of Northern Rhodesia. (Incidentally, in both 1959 and 1960, I was a high school student; the description of my “profession” as a “university student” was added by the British High Commission in Australia when the life of my passport was extended.) |
