Climbing Mt Taranaki

September 2008: Four-and-a-quarter hours after leaving the Tahurangi Lodge, I reached the 2,518 metre-high summit of Mt Taranaki and signalled it was the third time that I’d done so. On the left behind me are the Shark’s Tooth (2,510 metres) and (on the horizon) Mt Ruapehu (2,797 metres). Mt Ruapehu is the highest mountain in the North Island of New Zealand, while Mt Taranaki is the North Island’s second highest mountain.
