Taum Sauk Mountain


Part of the Fort Davidson battlefield, which is a state historic site. During the Battle of Fort Davidson, which is also known as the Battle of Pilot Knob, Union soldiers escaped at night through the Confederate forces’ lines after a stout defence of the fort that had the effect of thwarting the rebels’ planned advance on St Louis.
