 JOHANNESBURG: In July 1962, I stood in the middle of Commissioner Street and took this photograph looking along the street, which was at the time in what has been called “the core of Jo’burg’s buzzing commercial and financial life.” Buildings occupied by well-known South African companies such as the OK Bazaars and the South African Permanent Building Society can be seen on the left-hand side of the street, while Truworths is on the right. |
