 LIVING IN JOHANNESBURG – 37 Sunnyside Road, Birnam: While we were living at 37 Sunnyside Road, I have a clear memory of the first film I never saw. Bobby was going to take Stuart and me to see Walt Disney’s Dumbo. Neither Stuart nor I had ever been to the movies before, and we were both very excited at the prospect of doing so, but when the big day arrived, I was ill. For years it rankled that my younger brother had seen a film before I did, so in early 2020 I was delighted to receive a DVD of the original (that is, the 1941 version of) Dumbo as a present from Stuart. |
