 LIVING IN JOHANNESBURG – 27, 12th Avenue, Parktown North: Bobby and Lilian sold 27, 12th Avenue, Parktown North, in mid-1962 in order to emigrate to Australia. Some years later, the house we’d lived in was demolished and, I gather, four town houses were built on the property. Because of the all-pervasive security that’s predominant in modern-day Johannesburg – you can’t just wander up the driveway as anyone could have done in the 1950s – none of us has been back on the property since 1962, but we have been to see it from the street at least.
