 LIVING IN JOHANNESBURG – St-Martin’s-in-the-Veld: Bobby had a very good voice. As a child, he’d been a chorister in Oxford’s Christ Church cathedral. Lilian could also sing well. I couldn’t and I still can’t, but – as this photograph by Leslie Bate shows – Charlie and Stuart were fortunate enough to inherit our parents’ tunefulness and both of them sang in the St-Martin’s-in-the-Veld choir. |
