HOLIDAYS – Game reserves: Before I went to the United States in 1962, Bobby lent me not only this photograph that he once took of a lion in the Kruger National Park, but also a selection of the slides he’d taken during the 13 years that we lived in South Africa, so that I could show people in Ohio what our lives were like in Africa. Luckily I never gave any of the 35mm transparencies back to Bobby, because had I done so, they’d have been destroyed – along with everything else – when Bobby and Lilian’s home burnt down in 1967. I’m sure Bobby took better pictures of lions during the course of our many visits to the game reserve, but sadly this is the only one that’s left. |
