 HOLIDAYS – Rhodesia: As a family, we holidayed twice in Southern Rhodesia (which is now Zimbabwe). The first time we went to Rhodesia was in July 1953, when Lilian, Bobby, Anthony, Stuart, and I spent two weeks visiting Bulawayo, the Wankie game reserve, and the Victoria Falls. I was nine years old, and afterwards wrote an account of the trip. My hand-written version of A Trip to Rhodesia filled an entire school exercise book, but when it was typed up, it amounted to little more than five foolscap pages. This is an extract from the first page. My sentences in 1953 were much shorter than they are now. I was too. |
