 APARTHEID – The origins of my interest in politics: In July 1962, I went on my first anti-apartheid demonstration. It was a large march through the streets of central Johannesburg to protest against the expansion of South Africa’s detention-without-trial laws. However, the incipient political scientist in me also wanted to document the occasion, so I went up onto the balcony of a shop and took photographs of the march before I joined it. |
