 APARTHEID – Population and policies: I took this photograph of one of the wards in Baragwanath when I visited the hospital on a guided tour in mid-1962. Baragwanath is now the largest hospital in Africa, and has been renamed the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, after Chris Hani, a former general-secretary of the South African Communist Party who was assassinated in 1993. |
