Whanganui Journey

Heather and I started doing New Zealand’s Great Walks long before they were officially called Great Walks. We hiked our first one, the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, in January 1983, and four years later we did the Lake Waikaremoana walk. Following those first two Great Walks, we did six more between 1995 and 2013. In the order in which we completed them, they were the Milford Track, the Routeburn Track, the Heaphy Track, the Kepler Track, the Rakiura Track, and the Tongariro Northern Circuit. This meant that we had just one more of the then nine New Zealand Great Walks to do – namely, the Whanganui Journey.
