A Whanganui river journey

After Heather and I hiked the Tongariro Northern Circuit in February 2013, we’d completed eight out of what were then the nine New Zealand Great Walks. Three years later, we did the last of the nine – but it’s not a walk. It’s a canoe journey down the northern reaches of the Whanganui river. It should be noted, however, that our Great Walks adventures are not over. The Paparoa Track – completed in March 2020 – is now New Zealand’s tenth Great Walk.
