 The Hapuawhenua viaduct that was opened in 1987 replaced the original Hapuawhenua viaduct, which is 286 metres long and straddles the Hapuawhenua stream between the Raetihi and Rongokaupo hills. The original Hapuawhenua viaduct was built in just ten months in 1907-08, and has been granted Category 1 status by the Historic Places Trust. |
