 On 18 July, Eric and I drove south from Bishop, which had been our base for four nights, through Independence to Lone Pine, then up the Whitney Portal Road as a scoping exercise to see where we’d be heading the following morning, and finally back to Independence, where we’d reserved a room in a motel for two nights. |
