 A couple of minutes later, we met up with a team of four La Trobe University zoologists whose campsite was a few minutes’ walk away from ours. Led by Dr Heloise Gibb, a senior lecturer at La Trobe (second from the left, with the light-blue rucksack), the team also included research assistant Manoli Photakis (on the left) and two recent Honours graduates, Rachael Wood (next to Heloise Gibb) and Katie McClaren (next to Eric). They were going to collect invertebrate samples from traps they laid on the mountain, and Eric and I had arranged to accompany them most of the way to the top. |
