Climbing Mt Zeil

The La Trobe team had set up transects of forty traps along each of the 200-metre contours on Mt Zeil. Marked with identifying pink ribbons, the traps were simply small plastic containers dug into the ground. As part of a cross-national study, the team was collecting (and will be studying) the insects that fell into the traps. About one-third the way in from the left at the bottom of the picture, there’s a white container-top and, a little way above it, one of the round plastic container jars that’s been set in the ground. Dr Gibb’s speciality is the study of ants, but her team was interested in all the invertebrates that fell into the traps..
