The Eiger is one of a trio of peaks in the Bernese Oberland whose names stem from a mythical story. The other two peaks are the Monch and the Jungfrau. The English names of the three peaks are thus the Ogre, the Monk, and the Maiden. This is a photograph taken from above Kleine Scheidegg looking up past the Jungfraubahn (i.e., the Jungfrau railway) towards the Monch – the monk separating and protecting the maiden from the ogre.
