Europe, 1963

On Wednesday afternoon, 18 September, we caught the SS Despina from Piraeus (Athens’ port) to the island of Syros – a voyage that took six-and-a-half hours. On the way, I took this photograph of an elegant three-masted yacht going in the opposite direction. Subsequent research suggests the yacht was the Creole, which was then owned by the Greek shipping magnate, Stavros Niarchos, and later owned by the Gucci sisters. |
