Europe, 1963
|

The following morning, on Thursday, 17 October, we split up. I had taken out two months’ insurance for driving the bubble car on the continent (using a system known as having a “green card”, which is confusing because that’s also the name given to visas for working in the United States). I’d left England on 18 August, so my green card was about to expire. As a matter of urgency, I had to get the Heinkel back to England, so we said goodbye in Tours. This is the last photograph that I took of Gary, Bill, and Dave in 1963 (I did see them again in Rotterdam the following week, after I’d hitch-hiked there, but I didn’t take any photos then). |
