Europe, 1969

Day 24 (8 October 1969) – WEST BERLIN: The Brandenburg Gate is possibly the most famous landmark in Berlin. Built in the late 18th century, it’s the only remaining town gate in the city. After the division of Berlin into four separate quarters at the end of World War II, the gate was situated in the Russian zone – hence this photograph taken from the western side of the gate features a sign saying, “Attention! You are now leaving West Berlin.”
