 Day 25 (9 October 1969) – WEST BERLIN: The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is – to quote the official ‘Visit Berlin’ website – “a memorial against war, combining war ruins with a modern building, and a place of remembrance and reconciliation.” As I wrote in my diary, “Like Coventry, it incorporates the old and the new, but … it was less commercial than Coventry Cathedral,” by which I think I meant it had far fewer visitors. |
