Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, 1985
|

This is a wonderful aerial photograph. I did not take the picture (it’s from Wageni Tours and Safaris’ website), but I’ve used it (a) because looks down onto Kibo on a day when conditions were similar to those we experienced on 12 December 1985, and (b) because it illustrates the steepness of Kibo’s scree slopes. (If the top of Kibo’s volcanic cone were a watch face, then the eastern icefields would be at about 2 o’clock, Gillman’s Point near 4 o’clock, the southern icefields close to 5 o’clock, and Uhuru Peak – the summit of Kilimanjaro – at about 10 o’clock.) |
