 At 9:00 am on Sunday, 29 December 1996, Heather, Evan, and I left Christchurch and began driving the 500 or so kilometres / 300 miles to Queenstown. Christchurch friends of ours – Joy McLeod and her 22-year-old son, Keith – left at the same time. On a glorious summer’s day, we pulled off the road above Lake Pukaki to admire the view of Aorangi / Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain (3,724 metres / 12,218 feet), and Joy took this photograph of Heather. |
