The Routeburn Track |
 This is a photograph of a map in a Department of Conservation pamphlet that shows the route we took on the Routeburn Track. While the track can be walked in either direction, we started our hike at the Routeburn Shelter, which is at the north-eastern end of the track. On Day 1, 30 December 1996, we walked to the Routeburn Falls Hut and spent the night there. On Day 2, 31 December 1996, we hiked via the Harris Saddle Shelter and Conical Hill to the Lake Mackenzie Hut; and on 1 January 1997 – during our third and final day on the track – we hiked via the Lake Howden Hut and Key Summit to the Divide Shelter at the south-western end of the track. |
