 Architecture / buildings – France: The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel and built for the 1889 World Fair. Initially intended to be a temporary structure, it was (of course) not pulled down, and – as the Paris tourism office notes – it is now regarded as “a symbol of Paris and more generally of France.” I took this photograph on 29 October 2012, and it was published on the metvuw meteorological website as its Photo of the Day on 17 November 2012. |
