 Dawn – South Africa: I took this photograph in July 1962 of fellow climbers standing alongside the frozen Tugela river at the edge of the Drakensberg escarpment and watching the sunrise. Dave Dodds, the person with the tripod, was a South African dentist. He was my climbing mentor; this picture was taken on the last of three climbing trips I went on with him in 1961 and 1962. |
