 1958 I finished my primary schooling at the end of 1956, and the following year started going to Parktown Boys’ High School. Two Parktown Boys’ friends – Joe Farragher and Keith Norman – were in the same scout troop as me, and the three of us rose through the ranks to become patrol leaders. In December 1958 (at the end of my second and final year at Parktown Boys’ High School), Joe, Keith, and I went on a camping trip to Swaziland, where Joe took this photograph of Keith (on the right) and me saluting after the flag had been raised. |
