It was a short 15-minute drive to Josephine Falls. After we left the car, Eric calibrated the altimeter on his watch. The car park is only 100 metres / 328 feet above sea-level. The summit of Mt Bartle Frere is 1,622 metres / 5,321 feet above sea-level. Climbing the mountain is thus a steep slog – ascending more than a kilometre-and-a-half (i.e., just under five thousand feet) vertically in seven-and-a-half kilometres (a distance less than five miles). |
