Climbing Eagle Mountain

This photograph of part of the map on the notice board at the trailhead shows the route we hiked in order to reach the summit of Eagle Mountain. Initially we headed due north, and after about a mile / 1.6 kilometres we entered the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. We continued hiking north until we reached Whale Lake. We skirted the western edges of the lake, and then – heading north-west – climbed to the top of Eagle Mountain.
