Climbing Mt Hood

This photo was taken by Eric at 6:42 am of me descending the steepest portion of Mt Hood's south face. Determined not to fall, I was facing inwards, "front-pointing" with my crampons and driving the pick of my ice-axe as far into the frozen snow as it would go. The technique worked: I did not fall, but overly vigorous front-pointing did leave me with a black-and-blue bruised big toe!
