Climbing Mt Katahdin

This is a photograph of part of the map I bought for climbing Mt Katahdin. To reach the summit of the mountain from the Katahdin Steam trailhead, one heads predominantly east along what’s known as the Hunt Trail, which – depending on your perspective – is also either the first or the final portion of the Appalachian Trail, because Baxter Peak (which is what the summit of Mt Katahdin is called) is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. It’s 5.2 miles / 8.4 kilometres from the trailhead to the top of Katahdin, and the “V” on the map beneath the words” Appalachian Trail” is there because the trail is rated “Very difficult. Rugged and steep. May be dangerous.”
