 Wednesday, 30 October 1991 – From Lukla to Kathmandu: Some people flew out of Lukla on this large helicopter. I was offered the possibility of a seat on it on condition that I paid an extra $US30.00, which was a sum of money that I simply didn’t have. By this stage of the expedition – our last day in the Khumbu – all the cash I had amounted to only 342 rupees (which was the equivalent of about $US10.70). |
