The first afternoon’s walk on the Milford Track is short and east. It’s only about 5 kilometres / 3 miles, and – as this illustration detailing the track’s elevation profile (which I photographed from a DoC pamphlet) shows – it’s on fairly level ground. Likewise, the hikes on days 2 and 4 are also along reasonably flat terrain. The route on day 3, however, is an altogether different proposition: it’s up, over, and down the Mackinnon Pass. |
