 Two weeks later, though, I returned to South Carolina in order to visit the state’s capital city, Columbia, and to see its capitol building. The United States' stars-and-stripes flag and the South Carolina state flag were on the flag pole above the copper dome atop the state house; only a few months earlier, South Carolina legislators had voted to stop flying the confederate flag on state house grounds. |
