Sassafras Mountain, South Carolina
|
The African American history monument is only a short distance away from the spot where the confederate flag used to fly near the South Carolina state house. It is a moving memorial to the victims of slavery and the achievements of their successors. This section of the monument shows the (current) countries of origin of most of the slaves shipped to Charleston, South Carolina, in the 18th and 19th centuries, and is a powerful reminder of the evils of slavery. (This is the last picture in this album.) |
