Climbing Mt Taranaki

August 1995: The friends with whom I climbed Mt Taranaki the second time were Alastair Smith (who’s on the left in this picture) and Nick Shea. Alastair lectured in librarianship and information science at the Victoria University of Wellington (which is where I too taught, but in political science), while Nick was a lawyer temporarily working in Wellington but really from Lincoln’s Inn in London, where he specialized in patent law. I took this photograph of them on Saturday, 5 August 1995, during a break in our hike from the Camphouse up to the Tahurangi Lodge (which is the Taranaki Alpine Club’s 26-bed hut on the mountain).
