Thirteen Formative Years

EDUCATION – St Stithians College: This picture of Neville Richardson (on the right) and me was taken the first time I saw Neville again after leaving school. He was a visiting professor (in theology and religious studies) at the University of Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia, and I went to see him and meet his family after going to a conference in Toronto in May 1988. One thing Neville remarked on in 1988 was how he remembered being taller than me when we were at school, but that I was now taller than him. Neville was right: I had a late growth spurt (you could say I was a late developer) and only reached my imposing height of 5 feet, eight-and-a-half inches / 173 centimetres around the time of my 18th birthday.
