 HOLIDAYS Cape Town: The first holiday we went on in South Africa was to Cape Town in December 1949 eleven months after arriving in the country. As Bobby noted in his Memoirs, Ken [Brauer, a radiologist whom Bobby and Lilian had known in Britain] suggested that Lilian and I might like to bring the family down to Cape Town in late December 1949 and stay at his beautiful home in Constantia This we agreed to do and had a wonderful holiday. No photographs of that holiday survive, so I have instead included one that I took of Cape Town and Table Mountain in August 1998 (when I went there to take part in a conference about the South African electoral system). |
