Climbing Mt Whitney |
 ... and I set out on the Mt Whitney trail (and as Eric had decided to use only one of his trekking poles for the first part of the climb, I borrowed his other pole, something I don’t normally use when hiking). The Whitney Portal is 8,360 feet / 2,548 metres above sea-level, and we had 10.7 miles / 17.2 kms ahead of us – a vertical ascent of 6,137 feet / 1,871 metres – in order to reach the summit. |
