Climbing Mt Whitney |
 The route we took up Mt Whitney is shown in orange on this map. After leaving the Mt Whitney Portal, the Mt Whitney trail heads west until it reaches Trail Crest and joins the John Muir trail, at which stage the Mt Whitney trail branches north for two miles / 3.2 kms until it reaches the summit of the mountain. The total distance from Whitney Portal to the summit of the mountain is 10.7 miles / 17.2 kms, with the result that the round trip is 21.4 miles / 34.2 kms. |
