Europe, 1963

On Wednesday, 21 August, I left Ličge at 7:00 am and drove all day on a route that took me through four countries. This is a photograph of the Heinkel bubble car in southern Belgium. Incidentally, as this picture shows, the Heinkel was a left-hand drive car, which helped me adapt fairly easily to the fact that “the rule of the road is reversed” on the continent (as the General Accident insurance company brochure put it), and – after Ostend – I didn’t drive on the wrong side of the road again.
