Climbing Mt Hood

First attempt: At 5:35 am – between Crater Rock and the Devil's Kitchen, at an altitude of about 10,200 feet / 3,100 metres – I decided to call it quits. We were about to tackle the steepest section of the ascent (across the Hog's Back and up alongside the Pearly Gates), and I was slowing Eric and Roger down to the point that none of us would have been likely to have reached the summit had I tried to continue the climb. I told Eric and Roger to go on without me, and that I would make my way back down to the car.
