Thirteen Formative Years

HOLIDAYS – Eastern Transvaal: During the 13 years we lived in South Africa, we also had several holidays in the Eastern Transvaal (now known as Mpumalanga) in order to go trout fishing and to explore the parts of the country that lie between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. The most dramatic scenery we visited in the Eastern Transvaal was the Blyde River Canyon. This photograph by Bobby Roberts shows me standing on a ledge looking across the mini-Grand Canyon while focusing my twin-lens Yashica camera.
