Charles Mound, Illinois |
On 2 September 2017 – accompanied by my wife, Heather; our son, Evan; and our grandson, Simon – I hiked to the top of Charles Mound, the highest point in Illinois. It’s 1,235 feet / 376 metres above sea-level, and is the 45th highest of the fifty US state highpoints. Charles Mound was the 49th US state highpoint that I'd climbed, hiked up, or visited, while it was Evan's fourth US state highpoint, and Heather and Simon's first. |
