The Lake Waikaremoana Track

In late December 1987, Heather and I hiked the Lake Waikaremoana Track together with Evan (who was then two weeks shy of his 13th birthday) and 14-year-old Tim Hannah. When we did the hike, the track was in the Urewera National Park and wasn’t known as a Great Walk. Nowadays, however, the national park no longer exists, but the track is nevertheless one of New Zealand’s ten Great Walks. The Lake Waikaremoana Track was the second of the nine Great Walks that Heather and I have done to date.
